2012 SPA Welcomes New Leadership
January - 2012
From: Michael Brandt, Immediate Past-President

Thank you, SPA, for the opportunity to serve on the Board and to be President for two years. Being on the Board in any capacity is a very fulfilling and enjoyable calling. It is wonderful to work with a group of such dedicated professionals who give tirelessly back to the profession of pharmacy in this way.
I have seen many changes in the four years I’ve served on the board. Mostly around SPA’s ability to provide quality CE in a way that best serves the needs of the members. Gone are the days of lavish dinners at exquisite country clubs while paying a speaker travel and honoraria. SPA continues to have the opportunity to provide quality education as we mine the vast knowledge base that is available to us in this region. The challenge to the association and its members is how to provide that within a very tight budget.
Our collaboration with WSU and WSPA continues to grow. Dean Pollack of the WSU College of Pharmacy has given SPA his full support. SPA will strengthen this relationship in the coming months and years in mutual support; SPA supports the students and gives the professors opportunities to teach outside the classroom environment, and WSU gives SPA space at the Spokane campus and access to WSU programs. As well, SPA has three WSU professors on its Board!
SPA has been collaborating with WSPA on hot issues at the state level, and WSPA has been providing SPA with examples of such resources as membership sign-up and access to the CEO for education, to name just two.
SPA has some young members now on the Board that will supply the association with a continued passion for SPA and the profession of pharmacy. As I wind down my Board commitment, I look forward with delight my continued tenure with SPA as a member over the coming years!
