Membership Update:
Marguerite reported: 79 members have paid for 2008, 119 from 2007 are still pending. We need updated information from our members. Currently we have 50-70 members without a current e-mail address listed. A reminder in the newsletter for our members to provide updated information was suggested. Prospective graduates are key to our membership and will be a priority for recruitment.
Statewide Update:
Colleen reported: Proposed Senate Bill S.6189 would mandate dispensing all legally prescribed medications and devices. There are more details about this bill and concerns/issues. Please participate in WSPA’s Survey of Access to Pharmacy Based Emergency Contraception. Survey is on main page of website. WSPA is working with Senator Linda Evans Parlette to draft language that would standardize the referral process (in order to facilitate safe, timely, medically appropriate and efficient patient care.) WSPA is having their Winter CE & Ski Feb. 27th through March 2nd at Sun Valley Resort in Idaho. The new drug, new law presentation will be held January 27th and April 20th. This information can be found at www.wsparx.org. The Northwest Pharmacy Convention will be held at the Coeur ‘D Alene Resort the weekend of May 28th.
Student Update:
Third year students are back in classes and fourth year students are looking forward to graduation May 2nd. Laurel is looking into avenues to support the fourth year students board exam preparation. We intend to provide a post-graduate sign-up sheet/booth at this event.
CE Update:
We are anticipating a presentation by Colleen Terriff on HIV Medications Update. Student attendance is encouraged at these events. However, due to enthusiastic response and numerous no-shows we anticipate having to put students on a waiting list until attendance confirmation is preformed. We aim to cut back on the absenteeism at the CE events by providing reminders. Often it costs $3000 to $5000 to provide our CE events. Grant sponsorship often requires prediction of date, speaker, venue, title of presentation, and number of attendees 4 to 6 weeks ahead of time followed by up to 3 applications.
New Business:
By laws update and CE calendar to be determined at the next board meeting. We intend to produce an independent SPA website for updates and information.
