SPA BOARD MEETING MINUTES
June 10, 2008

Present:

Michael Brandt, Brenda Bray, Bill Fassett, Andrew Harbison, Brandy Singer, Michelle Sodorff, Marguerite Villars, Ehren Wainwright, and Miriam Wilson.

Absent:

Colleen Terriff, and Jason Wicklund

Minutes from May 6, 2008, meeting were presented and approved.

 

Action Item:

  • The SPA By-Laws Update:
    • SPA monthly business meetings are now annual business meetings to be held during the annual banquet. The annual treasury report to maintain corporate status will be presented at this time.
    • SPA committees are appointed by the SPA President and are to include Continuing Education, Communications, and Auditing Committees.
    • The President or designee shall have authority to sign contracts with continuing education providers.
    • Amendments to By-Laws are adopted by a 4/5 vote of the governing body. A 1/3 vote by ballot from active membership is required in order to over-ride the vote of governing body. (See amended By-Laws for Language)
    • An announcement of the amendments to the By-Laws will be mailed to active members ten days prior to the September Board Meeting. Active members will be invited to the board meeting to vote on the amendments to the By-Laws. Active members can RSVP, and the vote will be held during the first 15 minutes of the September Board Meeting.

Follow Up:

  • Policy for charging for BlastFAX:
    • At this time the SPA president will be responsible for screening what is sent via BlastFAX until a screening process is created and implemented. The charge for commercial use of the BlastFAX is $75/BlastFAX at this time. Brenda is preparing a proposal for the use of BlastFAX that the SPA Board will vote on in September.
  • SPA Cocktail Party
    • The proposed dates and venue for the event are as follows: Thursday August 21, OR Thursday September 11, at the Red Lion River Inn. The date and venue of the SPA Cocktail Party are TBA at this time and will be announced on the SPA website at www.spokanepharmacy.org.
    • Proceeds from the event will go to support the Christ Clinic, a non-profit organization that provides primary healthcare services to uninsured and under insured in Spokane. For more information about the organization, visit www.christclinic.org.
  • Annual Awards Banquet
    • Proposed dates and venue for the Banquet are November 4th, 5th, or 6th at the Northern Lights Brewery. This information is TBA at this time and will be announced at the September board meeting.
  • SPA Website Update
    • See website for announcements on the SPA Annual Banquet.
    • Pharmacy Award Nominations will be posted to the SPA web-site in August or September and presented at the Annual Banquet.

    • See website for announcements on Continuing Education.

Discussion:

  • SPA Partnership With Charity Organization
    • The SPA has discussed the possibility of partnership as an association with a charity organization to lend support to a capital campaign.

CE Update:

  • June 19th: "New Treatment Options for Smoking Cessation" by Terri Levien.
  • June 24th and 25th: "Botulinum Toxin Safety and Pharmacology" by Ryan Culala – industry sponsored event (not SPA sponsored)

 

Next Board Meeting is scheduled for September 9th.
