Technician Update: Miriam was not present but is continuing to gather information on topics of interest for the lunches for technicians. She is determining appropriate dates for the law update as well as the locations.
Student Update:
Ehren is continuing his fundraising and will be compiling letters to present to hotels and will be addressing other businesses in person for support. He will pursue sponsorship from RPMs for their interns to contribute to the scholarship fund. Ehren will be coordinating a basket or items for raffle and distribution at individual CEs in addition to raffle for distribution at the annual banquet in November. The board discussed prices for raffle tickets and is considering $1/ticket or discounts for bulk tickets. Colleen Terriff will be advertising for SPA at the NAPLEX review session lunch. She will attempt to increase awareness of SPA and membership for the future. Laurel Cox will provide, distribute, and gather a sign up sheet for the free lunch at the review. This will serve to promote membership by providing contact to the new graduates.
Statewide Update:
- WSPA is preparing for the Northwest Pharmacy Convention on May 30-June 1 in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.
- Recently, NARAL (National Association for the Repeal of Abortion Laws; Pro-Choice America) distributed a Washington State pharmacy map for Emergency Contraception Availability. Pharmacy names and addresses plus colored flags are displayed:
- Red- pharmacies that do NOT stock emergency contraception
- Yellow- pharmacies that stock but refuse emergency contraception
- Green- pharmacies that stock and offer emergency contraception

(note that red and yellow flags default on screen.) Please visit the Washington State Pharmacy Association’s website www.wsparx.org for: the organization’s response to NARAL about the inaccuracies of the information, which was collected by on-line surveys and volunteers, and NARAL’s response to WSPA.
New Business/Information:
- SPA accepted the proposal for Sharon Fassett to construct our SPA website until December. SPA will re-evaluate at that time continuing the website. The board discussed web host, use of Paypal, as well as formatting. Brandy Singer, Brenda Bray and Jason Wicklund will help Marguerite in reviewing what to include on our website.
- Jason Wicklund suggested additional financial incentives for SPA members via local discounts. He will attempt to receive commitment from business, hotels, and golf courses. There is also opportunity for discounted advertising for these businesses on our new website. Jason also suggested a social night and an opportunity for spouses to attend as well. These may provide the opportunity to donate to the scholarship fund or a different cause. SPA would fund the appetizers with the proceeds going to the designated cause. Attendees would cover their own drinks.
Membership Update:
SPA has 144 active members and 77 from 2007 that have not renewed. We have addresses for 12 students and 10 students that have not provided an address.
