SPA BOARD MEETING MINUTES
October 14th, 2008

Present:

Michael Brandt, Brenda Bray, Andrew Harbison, Rebecca Hille (Guest WA BOP Chair), Brandy Singer, Michelle Sodorff, Colleen Terriff, Marguerite Villars, and Miriam Wilson

Absent:

Bill Fassett, Ehren Wainwright, and Jason Wicklund

Minutes from September 9th, 2008, meeting were presented and approved.

 

Follow Up: Update Annual Awards Banquet on November 5th

  • Invitations have currently been sent out to members and other persons of interest and we are waiting for RSVPs.
  • Discussed to make sure we invite award recipients and also provide dinner for the three speakers from Christ Clinic
  • There will be a $25 fee for the screen rental, we will use Jason Wicklund’s projector with a laptop, and we will use the Spokane Club’s microphone.
  • Raffle:
    • Gift baskets from Christ Clinic and other donators.
    • Proceeds to Christ Clinic and Marguerite Villars Scholarship.
    • Suggestion to include a free one-year membership prize for SPA and possible WSPA.
    • Master drawing will include tickets that have been sold at previous CE’s (we need a volunteer to sell tickets).
    • Suggestion of a 50/50 money drawing.
  • SPA Board members should arrive around 5:30pm or 6pm.
  • Registration table:
    • List of attendees/membership forms/SPA newsletter available
    • $30 entry fee for non-members
    • Michelle Sodorff agreed to work the registration table.
  • CE hours:
    • We will submit after or get the slides from the speaker ahead of time because we need an outline in order to submit the forms.
    • Applied for 1 hr CE – Marguerite will fill out the certificate
  • Vendor displays:
    • Suggested for every member to resend emails to potential vendors.
    • Astra Zeneca has returned form – no payment received yet
    • Janssen has returned form – no payment received yet
  • Parking: street parking and parking lot near
  • Awards:
    • Need to know 2 weeks in advance in order for them to be made
    • Community Pharmacist of the Year: Robert Leland
    • Speaker: Josh Neumiller
    • Health System Pharmacy: Group Health Cooperative
  • Outgoing Board members: Jason Wicklund (1 year of service), Travis (3 years service), Erhen Wainwright (2 years service)

WA State Board of Pharmacy Update:

  • Prescription Monitoring Program Workshop
    • Spokane 10/17 1-4pm Spokane Convention Center (201AB)
    • Four groups including:
      • Access to program
      • Policies and Procedures Changes
    • Michael brought up that it seems inconvenient to monitor schedule V medications such as Lomodil.
  • There have been lawsuits about medical marijuana.
  • There have been many requests for an online pharmacy technician training program.
  • New program manager for RAPP – William Rhodes
  • There have been many requests for lists of pharmacist and tech members of WSPA that WSPA has denied.
  • Permanent revocation of licenses is now available
    • License revocation used to be 10 years maximum
  • Telepharmacy still in the workings
  • Discussed the Right to Die law
    • Brenda Bray will send out information about panel discussion regarding this law.

CE Calendar Update:

  • The hybrid model failed because the drug rep backed out on paying for dinner.  Michael was able to get the rep to pay for dinner, and Jeff Rochon was able to still get the CE.
  • January - Brandi Singer
  • January 30th – Dr. Robert Freedman
  • February 12-13th – Dr. Allie Oley
  • The board discussed the recent CE locations:
    • Red Lion – good food, cheaper
    • Clinkerdagger’s – expensive, cramped, can only fit about 40 people
    • Luigi’s – expensive, cramped, loud

Technician Update:

  • Roundtable Education Sessions (Law Update Luncheon)
    • Discussed a possible evening dinner for pharmacy technicians with Bill Fassett.
    • Michael will set up for early December.

Student Update:

  • Scholarship fundraising is ongoing.

Statewide Update:

  • WSPA Annual Meeting is in Tulalip, WA – November 7-8, 2008

 

Next Board Meeting is scheduled for November 11th, 2008.
