Welcome New SPA Board Members for 2009:

  • Welcome Michael Glockling, Mary Nyman and Sue Marchi Kellogg
  • Welcome back Brenda Bray and Bill Fassett

Action/Discussion Items:

  • Final Review of SPA compliance policies
    • Board motioned to change asset distribution to any non-profit organization that shares the mission and goals of SPA.
    • Sharon Fassett, wife of Bill Fassett, is the SPA web-site coordinator which is recognized as a conflict of interest. The board motioned Bill Fassett as SPA Vice-President despite Sharon Fassett’s role with the SPA.
  • Update on Laptop Purchase
    • A laptop would function as a means to run QuickBooks for managing financial records and statements (ex: Profit and Loss Statement and Balance Sheets).
    • Currently the financials are segmented between hard copies and QuickBooks.
    • A laptop would serve as a means to maintain all tax records in one location and keep this information secure and accessible when a new treasurer transitions into office.
    • Bill will look into the possibility of storing this information in one place on the SPA web site, as an alternative to purchasing a laptop for this purpose.
    • Could also serve as a utility for CE presentations.
  • Formation of Audit Committee as mentioned in the SPA By-Laws
    • Bill, Marguerite, Michelle, Colleen, and Michael G. will meet in the next month for breakfast to look at QuickBooks and hard copies of financials from the past two to three years.
  • Community Involvement
    • Organizations (ex: Drug Free Spokane and SRHD Communicable Diseases Project) have approached the SPA about community involvement.
    • It is unknown at this time which organizations want to present information as an FYI to the SPA and which ones want to work in a coordinated effort.
  • Board Member Committee Co-Chair Sign-Up
    • Michael is seeking a CE co-chair.
    • Brandy is seeking an Annual Awards Banquet co-chair.

Follow Up:

  • Quick Books Progress
  • Michelle brought a Profit and Loss Statement and also a Balance Sheet for January through December 2008.
  • Marguerite and Michelle are working to make final updates to these reports.
