Meeting called to order at 7AM by SPA President, Brenda Bray. Minutes from March 10, 2009 were adjusted, amended, and approved.

Action/Discussion Items:

SPA Technology/Communications

  • Doug Crafton has stepped down from the position of technology/communications chair and Bill Fassett has agreed to serve as the interim technology/communications chair.
  • The Board of Directors is in support of using one membership database for maintaining membership lists and for sending announcements.
  • The Board of Directors motioned to approve a six month trial with Constant Contact for this purpose.
  • Bill Fassett will try to figure out how Event Brite and Constant Contact work together. Brenda Bray stated that a goal will be to tie Event Brite, or a program like it, into Constant Contact by this fall.
  • Michael Brandt will work with Bill and Sharon Fassett and iron out the formatting for SPA announcements to be used in Constant Contact.

Pharmacy Technician Student Status

  • Currently the SPA Constitution under Article III, section II, includes pharmacy students as active members but not pharmacy technician students. Active members in good standing may vote and hold office on the SPA Board.
  • The Board of Directors supports adding pharmacy technician students to the list as eligible to become active SPA members, granted that the student is enrolled in pre-pharmacy courses or a certified pharmacy technician program.
  • SPA will announce the proposed SPA Constitution change in the newsletter and will vote on it at the SPA meeting following the announcement of the proposed change.

Medicare Legislation – National Home Infusion Association (NHIA)

  • Board member Michael Glockling returned with a report from NHIA Legislative day in Washington D.C.
  • Michael stated that Medicare is the only payer that does not pay for home infusion services, but there are two proposed bills introduced this year intended to expand Medicare coverage to include home infusion services.
  • Seven NHIA members from WA met with federal lawmakers from WA to discuss the importance of the bills and to promote co-sponsorship of the proposed bills.
  • Michael believes that lawmakers and staff seemed genuinely interested in the cost savings that these bills would achieve.

SPA Student Scholarship

  • The Board motioned to approve donating $2,500 to WSU College of Pharmacy for the SPA Student Scholarship in the 2009-10 school year.

  • The Board motioned to donate $500 in his name to the Crime Stoppers Program.
